The House of Atreides has emerged as a superpower of Dune's planet Arrakis. However, the rule of the government is not wholly universal, there are numerous corrupt adversaries, the greatest being the fallen Baron Harkonnen who strikes to regain control of his old Empire, Dune, with it's mystifying life-force, and all it symbolises to the galactic order...

Children of Dune is based on the second and third books in Frank Herbert's Dune series, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. After the visual feast that was the Dune mini series, Herbert fans were no doubt looking forward to the sequel. And, thankfully this series doesn't disappoint.

Visually stunning, this three part collection is a work of art. Following on from the events from the original Dune mini series, Children of Dune sees Paul Atreides having to duck and dodge not only his enemies, but those close to him.

Fresh talent comes in the form of Hollywood legends Susan Sarandon, Alice Krige and Steven Berkoff. All turn in first rate performances that help to add an extra touch to the proceedings.

The only real complaints are that there is still some poor acting, although not on the same scale as the first series, and some of the visual effects don't quite work. Sadly, CGI is still not at the level where cascading water looks convincing. Also there are some dodgy looking interiors that use blue screen to put the actors into surroundings that would have been to expensive to create using full size sets. One in particular has the actors walking across a marble floor which just doesn't look right.

Apart from these slight moans, this is a fantastic production that can be watched time and time again.
