Dear Sci-Fi Online
For a while I've been trying to find out about the differing
British and American aspect ratios of some of the early James
Bond films (Dr
No, From
Russia With Love, Goldfinger,
Live
and Let Die and The
Man with the Golden Gun). These were matted
differently for their UK and US releases, the latter being
wider but cropping information from top and bottom.
I
read in Mr McGinlay's reviews that he owned the films on widescreen
VHS prior to buying them on DVD so I think he would be able
to answer whether these have the same aspect ratio as the
currently available version or else show more info (meaning
then that I have to start moving my arse to find them before
it's too late).
Regards
Donovan
Mayne-Nicholls.
Richard
McGinlay replies:
I
am happy to confirm that the UK DVD releases of Dr No,
From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, and
The Man With the Golden Gun are presented in their
correct aspect ratios - 1.77:1, as originally filmed.
And
in case you were considering ordering any of these through
Amazon, you might care to order through the following stores
