Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony for the PSP system is an all-new adventure, created from the ground up specifically for the handheld system. It features all-new playable characters and a freshly designed, non-linear, single player campaign as well as support for ad hoc co-operative and competitive multiplayer games...

Fans of Dungeon Siege on the PC will be glad to hear that a portable version is now available - bringing all the butt kicking fun of the original to a totally different market. When you start your game you get the option to choose one of three characters (Mogrim the Warlord, Allister the Battle Mage or Serin the Shadow Stalker) each has their own unique abilities and attributes. For pure brawn you can't beat Mogrim, those who want to specialise in the art of combat magic should choose Allister, and for a general all-rounder the blind Serin is the character to opt for. As well as the main characters, you also get the chance to choose between one of two followers. This character will provide some much needed support when you are in battle situations.

All characters, including the followers, can be customised as they level up with abilities that you choose - you can even pay for your followers to be schooled in the art of battle. You can choose a number of additional followers and pets along your travels, pick up and use or trade numerous weapons, armour and other interesting and useful items. As your skills increase you will be able to fight more and more powerful enemies as you head further North for reasons yet unknown to you.

The graphics and music in this game are both impressive and certainly help to make the experience more atmospheric. The people and creatures that you come across in your travels also prove to be helpful. You can talk to most people and there is usually a short sound clip introduction as each character chats to you. Some, like the strange creature who likes fish bits, are amusing, while others are just helpful.

Along with the main quests in the game, there are numerous side missions - quests that other characters will employ your services to complete for them. Doing these not only upgrades your skills, but also brings a financial reward, with which you can buy better weapons or armour.

The map for this game is pretty vast, and so its a relief to learn that their are portals (which look suspiciously like stargates from the TV show Stargate: SG-1) dotted around the landscape. Once you stumble upon on it is added to your map and you can use them to jump around the worlds in no time. Having said that, the load times are a little slow when you venture between environments, but then that's the price you have to pay for a game of this quality.

By far the best hack and slash role play game available on the PSP.
