You'll need to think tactically to rise through the levels successfully

Defend the Rook is a pretty standard turn-based tactical board game, which also introduces defend the tower elements. It's easy to pick up and play, with a simple tutorial introduction that seamlessly merges into the game proper.

While it may not be exactly original, the polish and execution of a well worn format is above average, with good graphics and vocal acting that ranges from average to professional. Cut sequences move the story along and the main game mechanics are familiar, and simple enough, to appeal to the novice and seasoned gamer alike.

Upgrade your party

You start off with your band of heroes and must protect your rook from the attacking enemy. You can lay traps, put obstacles in their way and take over stone pillars turning them into weaponised towers which fire at any enemy within range.

After each wave of enemy invader you'll get the opportunity to give one of your team a boost to help them in the next wave.

It's fun, it's frantic and it requires you to use enough of the old grey matter to make it interesting for quite some time. You'll need to think tactically if you're to rise through the levels successfully.
