Silva Screen release The Watch, Russ Davies’s soundtrack for AMC/BBC America’s TV adaptation of Terry Pratchett's beloved Discworld book series. The eight-part series is inspired by characters created by Terry Pratchett, rather than being a straight book adaptation. Underlined by Cyberpunk visuals, Season One takes place “somewhere in a distant secondhand dimension”. The Watch follows the misfits of The City Watch, a police organization in a city ruled by crime guilds. The guilds are regulated, the assassins are allowed to kill a certain number of citizens a year (and must leave receipts on the bodies), while people can schedule muggings or other thief-related activity as those guilds also fill their quotas...

The soundtrack to The Watch contains 27 tracks (55 min, 18 sec) and while there's little here that held my attention, as a musical souvenir of the series it works well.

It feels like a strictly by the book score though. There's no really interesting themes, nothing that makes you sit up and take notice. It's purely a soundtrack designed to sit quietly in the background and add a little atmosphere to the onscreen action. It's not necessarily a collection of themes, with the possible exception of 'Carcers Theme', that stand on their own two feet.

The album also includes the songs 'Zero' and 'Nothing Wrong With Loving a Horse'. The former sounds like something Kate Bush would have released in the '80s, while the latter is... well, just a weird comical song.

One for fans of the show only.
