Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is the latest game in the 30-year-old Chinese RPG series. Thankfully, because we in the west are not overly familiar with the franchise, Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is designed as a standalone entry that’s accessible to newcomers. It features dynamic real-time combat, puzzles, mini-games, and more.

The game takes place near the end of Western Han rule, the powerful prime minister of China superseded his Emperor, promising an era of peace and prosperity. But ten years later, that promise has not been fulfilled. Instead, a decade of war and famine has left China in ruin, and its salvation seems to lie in the hands of a Mohist swordsman who gains control of a fabled artifact called the Elysium Scroll.

As Taishi Zhao, you must travel across ancient China, slashing, blocking, and dodging enemies as you go. You can control the Elysium Scroll in order to slow down time, absorb monsters or alter the environment. You can also upgrade armor and weapons, develop passive skills and learn new techniques.
