WaterTower Music release the Scoob! original motion picture score, featuring new music from Grammy nominated composer Tom Holkenborg AKA Junkie XL. The first full-length animated Scooby-Doo adventure for the big screen, Scoob! presents the never-before told stories of Scooby-Doo’s origins and the greatest mystery in the career of Mystery Inc...

Scoob! represents composer Tom Holkenborg's first foray into animation: "Scooby-Doo is an iconic character for multiple generations," said Holkenborg. "There are many unique layers in the original series, touching on the counterculture, surf rock and psychedelia; and it was really interesting to try and encompass some of these elements with more contemporary sounds for Scoob! This isn't a traditional score. It's really out there - with nods to industrial, hip-hop and even gabber. The majority of the score is me blending a lot of hip-hop rhythms and beats with the zanier elements of the original series. We used players on surf guitars and Hammond organs, and it was a great chance for me to get my hands dirty on the bass guitar and iconic drum machines, like the Emulator SP1200. I had a blast working on this."

The album kicks off with a funked up, instrumental, version of David Mook's original 'Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?' theme song, before launching off into uncharted territory for the composer. There's plenty of diversity here and on occasion I was reminded of the work of Christopher Young ('Legend of Cerberus - Muttley's Story') and David Arnold's music for Independence Day ('Athens Arrival').

There's also the occasional nod and wink to the original series on tracks like 'Entry of the Gladiators' (which uses snippets of 'Entrance of the Gladiators op. 68 by Julius Fučík) but, at the end of the day Holkenborg delivers 20 (42 min, 13 sec) tracks that really capture the essence of what a modern day Scooby-Doo adventure should be all about, while still paying respect to the original TV series.
