Lakeshore Records release Christopher Lennertz's original score for Netflix's reboot of the sci-fi TV series Lost in Space. Produced by Legendary Television, Lost in Space is a Netflix Original dramatic and modern reimagining of the classic 1960’s science fiction series. Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, lightyears from their original destination...

Christopher Lennertz channels the spirit of John Williams for his score for Netflix's reboot of Lost in Space. This in itself is no mean feat, as Williams is a consummate perfectionist. As with Williams's compositions, Lennertz has ensured that every beat, every note, has been carefully constructed to wring as much emotion out of the listener as possible.

I'm not sure if Williams's work was the inspiration because he composed the theme music to the original '60s show, or if Lennertz is a huge fan of Williams. Over the course of this album's 29 tracks (1 hr, 35 min, 27 sec - if you pick up the special edition with the bonus tracks) Lennertz pays homage to Williams work on Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (most notable on 'To the Chariot'); Star Wars I-III and, rather obviously, the original theme for Lost in Space pops up from time to time. In addition tracks like 'Crash Landing' brought to mind the James Bond music of David Arnold.

From the opening track to the closing moments, Lennertz gets to flex his creative muscles to compose moments of pure adrenaline fuelled action sequence ('Crash Landing'), to tender and heartbreakingly beautiful pieces of sheer bliss ('Ultimate Sacrifice'). There isn't a wasted second of music here.

A wonderful, rich score that doesn't disappoint for a second.
