MovieScore Media release Kevin Riepl’s score for Atropa, the new Canal+ streaming series. The 7-part adventure, consisting of 11-13 minute-long episodes, tells the story of a troubled Off-World Officer, running from his past, but finding himself slammed directly into it when he boards the mysterious spaceship Atropa in this love-letter to the grungy science fiction movies of the '70s and '80s...

Kevin Riepl delivers exactly what you'll be expecting with his score for Atropa. There are so many sci-fi elements shoehorned in here that it's difficult to know where to start (or stop for that matter) flagging them up.

Overall, it's a good solid score that creates just the right atmosphere, but there are also quite a lot of atmospheric segments of music that don't really go any where - perfect for the show, but not so interesting to listen to in isolation.

There's a subtle homage to Jerry Goldsmith's work on Alien in 'The Morinda'. There's also the occasional nod to James Horner's score for Aliens. But, oddly enough, the most obvious homage can be found at the end of 'Stop The Cycle (Alt)', which references Horner's work on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

Overall, quite a well rounded score that has plenty to discover over the course of its 23 tracks (1 hr, 10 min, 03 sec).
