Lakeshore Records release the original score for Before I Fall. In the movie, Samantha Kingston seems to have it all: popularity, a loving boyfriend and a seemingly perfect future. Everything changes in the blink of an eye when she dies in a car crash but then magically wakes up to find herself reliving the same day over and over again. As Samantha tries to untangle the mystery of a life derailed, she must also unravel the secrets of the people closest to her and discover how the power of a single day can make a difference...

While there's nothing wrong with Adam Taylor's score for Before I Fall, there's nothing overly memorable either. The 14 tracks (23 min, 09 sec) are merely functional. They do their job neatly: get in, get the job done and get out without causing a fuss. And that for me was it's biggest flaw. There was the opportunity to be a little more instrumental in the involvement of the story, but all we really get are a collection of music cues designed to sit in the background and add subtle accompaniment to the onscreen action.

That, no doubt, was the director and composer's intention and so it seems harsh to criticize them for a job well done. Sadly, however, it doesn't make for an interesting listening experience outside of the film.
