Released earlier this year, Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers. Available on red, pink, blue and black vinyl (through other retailers), this Yellow Ranger vinyl is sure to become a collectable (limited to 500 units)...

Varèse Sarabande is releasing three soundtracks this month (August 2017) as vinyl LP packages exclusive to Barnes & Noble. They include the classic movie musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968 - Cast Recording); Unforgiven (1992 - Lennie Niehaus); and this release Saban's Power Rangers (2017 - Brian Tyler).

Those of a certain age will have grown up with the Power Rangers and so the movie release will either be met with disdain or intrigue. I was too old to collect the action figures and enjoy the TV series... but whether you're a fan of the new movie or not, one thing is certain. Brian Tyler's score for the film is not only amongst his finest to date, but it's also easily the best Power Rangers soundtrack released so far.

The album contains 28 tracks (1 hr, 18 min, 03 sec). Personal highlights include 'Power Rangers Theme'; 'Seek Those Who Are Worthy'; the melancholic, beautiful 'It's Morphing Time!' (the themes of which are repeat in 'Go Go Power Rangers - End Titles'); and 'The Final Stand' (which reminded me of Tommy Tallarico and Emmanuel Fratianni's score for the game Advent Rising).

In addition, for fans of the original TV show, 'Let's Ride' and 'Go Go Power Rangers - End Titles' pays homage to the original theme tune. As sci-fi action scores go they don't come much more interesting than this.
