iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) Game Review
Destroy the colossal mothership looming over the planet and save your homeworld! With a fleet of high-tech starfighters at your disposal, take on a series of suicidal missions to destroy the alien invader from the inside. Take down reactors, collect sensitive data, and avoid lethal defences as you manoeuvre through the vents of the enemy vessel at near light-speed velocity – you are the last hope of your people...
I've had this game for some time now and have delayed reviewing it for one simple reason. The way I like to play a game makes this almost unplayable.
I'm one of those odd people who likes to change the controls so that up and down are reversed. And while this game, like most games on the market, offers this on the menu screen, it doesn't work. If I want to play the game by moving the iPad (tilt), fine it will invert the controls, but if I want to use the screen controls (touch) it doesn't work. I tried reinstalling it but it's still the same. So, I put off writing this review for as long as possible assuming that the developers would have been made aware of this bug and have offered a patch (shouldn't be too difficult to fix really) but they don't seem to have done anything about it.
That issue aside, I ended up reviewing the game using the motion sensor of the iPad and it is a fun and addictive reimagining of an old classic.
Each level sees you having to fly through a tunnel (which takes you through the core of the enemies mothership). Fly through the obstacles and emerge on the other side - it's really that simple. As the levels progress you'll encounter more things that get in the way and make it harder to make your run in one piece.
Going to your hangar you can change the colour of your ship (for credits) as well as purchase any new unlocked vessels as well as upgrade aspects of them. To be fair none of this really makes a lot of difference. It's simply a case of flying without crashing.
It's a pretty simple game which looks fine and plays well. Now, if they could just solve the controls nightmare I might be able to get further.
